We understand not everyone is ready to invest in a unique original oil painting or a limited edition print of original artwork, even during the Christmas holiday season. So our elves – more specifically Linda and Krystyana – have been busy in their studio working on some easily affordable holiday gifts items (which you can gift to yourself too, of course), all of which feature the unique Richter Art Gallery touch. This week, success in that area was achieved with the release of new earrings, ornaments, and beadmen.
The earrings feature our original artwork (with some common motifs) and are being offered in a Mix ‘N Match format where you can purchase one earring by itself, or match it with another single earring to make a custom pair. Individual earrings are only $7, while a pair is $12. The earrings feature things like Bonaire license plates, a Bonairean flag, a dive flag, as well as several different flamingo images from paintings by Linda.

We have also created special holiday ornaments which feature Richter artwork in miniature matted prints, decorated with Bonairean sea glass or sea salt. Each ornament is unique and different, and is being sold for only $9.50.

Finally, Krystyana’s jewelry making has been well known to Gallery visitors, and she has recently updated her Bonaire Beadmen line of wearable and displayable jewelry. Each Bonaire Beadman is unique, and sells for $16.

Kaminda di Arte Poster
We’re pleased to announce that we are part of the new Bonaire art initiative called “Kaminda di Arte“. In the local Papiamentu language, that translates roughly into “Path of Art”.
In addition to meaning that we now have nineteen artists on Bonaire working together to promote Bonaire’s visual arts, every artist who has committed to the Kaminda di Art project will have their gallery, atelier, studio, or home open on the third Sunday of each month, through June, 2011, from 11am to 5pm.
Being open on a Sunday, even just once a month, gives Bonaire’s artists an extra opportunity to expose the public to their art, while at the same time helping show the breadth of work of Bonaire’s artists.
The first Kaminda di Arte Sunday will be this coming Sunday, November 21st.
We like the idea so much, that in addition to being open from 11am to 5pm this coming Sunday, we’ve decided to also be open every Sunday until Christmas, again from 11am to 5pm. We think that will help those of you who are still trying to figure out Christmas presents for your friends and family.
So, as a result, we will be open from 11am to 5pm (or 11:00 to 17:00 in 24-hour time notation) on the following Sundays:
- November 21, 2010
- November 28, 2010
- December 5, 2010
- December 12, 2010
- December 19, 2010
In addition to our original oil paintings, limited edition prints, artisinal jewelry, and 2011 art calendar, we will have special Bonaire Art Holiday Ornaments available, as well as a new line of Bonaire-oriented earrings. Photos of those are forthcoming.

You may not be aware of this, but on 10-10-10, the country that Bonaire was part of – the Netherlands Antilles – ceased to exist. Bonaire has been absorbed, along with St. Eustatius and Saba (collectively the “BES” islands) into the Netherlands as a special municipality.
One of the bigger changes resulting from Bonaire’s country transition is that as of January 1, 2011, our local currency will switch from the Netherlands Antilles Guilder (or Florin, a.k.a. NAFl.) to the U.S. dollar, and Bonaire residents will have a month in which to exchange their old money for dollars, at an exchange rate of NAFl. 1,79 = US$1.00.
At the Richter Art Gallery we like to be forward thinking, so we have gone and already switched over to the U.S. dollar as our primary currency. All of our paintings and limited edition prints are marked in U.S. dollars, and we also give change in dollars if we are paid in cash for a purchase. Of course, should someone want to spend their NAFl here before the end of the year, we will gladly accept it at the exchange rate set for January 2011.

Linda finished another painting that has been in progress for months. It’s called Prismatic Layers.

Prismatic Layers by Linda Richter
Here’s what she has to say about the new painting:
In a quest for the perfect name, I did some research about conch and sea shells in general. One phrase struck a cord – prismatic layers. Basically a shell is calcium carbonate which brings to mind a white gray chalky looking mineral supplement, or maybe the white skeletons of long dead corals washed up on the beach. “Prismatic layers” aptly describes the hues of my Queen Conch shells.
Prismatic Layers is an original oil painting on stretched canvas measuring 42″×30″, mounted in a black metal floating frame. Limited edition prints are also available at the gallery.
NOTE: As a reminder, The Richter Art Gallery will be closed for the next two weeks while we explore new subject matter and seek inspiration in Spain and France. The gallery reopens on Tuesday, October 12th, at 2:00pm on the regular schedule.

Linda has been busy finishing up paintings this past week. She has just completed another magnificent bird themed painting, “Macaws, Interrupted”, seen below.

Macaws, Interrupted
“Two macaws sit close together on branch with their backs turned as if they had been conversing privately. Something drew their attention; they paused to look over their shoulders to see what it was. It is hard to believe the chatty parrots stopped for even a moment.” – Linda Richter
The red macaw is a Red-and-green Macaw, also known as the Green-winged Macaw (Ara chloropterus). The blue macaw is a Blue-and-yellow Macaw, also known as the Blue-and-gold Macaw (Ara ararauna).
The painting is 44 by 22 inches, oil on stretched canvas, in a black metal floater frame. It will be on display and available for sale this coming week at the Richter Art Gallery. Limited edition prints will be available shortly as well.

Linda has just finished a new painting featuring a Bonairean Peacock from a local kunuku (ranch).

Swept Along, by Linda Richter
Here’s what Linda has to say about her new work of art:
“Deep in the heart of the mundi, a flash of blue and green sweeps regally by. Is that a peacock on Bonaire? Strutting about with the goats and cruising past the giant cactus on a Bonairean kunuku (ranch) are these birds which I have generally associated with tropical lush greenness. Unlike the stereotypical peacock pose, this guy has his tail feathers down and trailing behind – soft and flowing. An almost monochromatic, simple background accentuates the long line of the tail feathers with the horizontal lines of the building, walkway and strip of rocky ground.”
Swept Along is 48″ by 30″, oil on canvas, gallery wrapped edges, and comes with a black metal floater frame. The painting will be viewable at Richter Art Gallery starting next week. Limited edition prints of the painting will be available later.
